| Two MrSAs, namely the LiveCast
and InfoCast applications, will be licensed to NIPs and
NSPs through non-exclusive licensing agreements. The Multicast
technologies developed in HKIPMI will be vastly superior
to existing unicast technologies in terms of both performance
and cost. We intend to use these two applications to demonstrate
the superiority and cost-effectiveness of Multicasting.

Renamed as Program Guide TV (PGTV)
PGTV employs IP Multicast technology to multicast
digital entertainment to a large number of recipients. Practical
applications may include Internet TV, Internet Radio and Internet
News Broadcast. While these types of applications have already
existed for some time, the scale is small due to the significantly
large bandwidth required to deliver replicated copies of data
to each recipient.
PGTV system can multicast video content to an arbitrary number of recipients on the network, and yet
maintain the same quality of service without additional resource
requirements from the server. Through this means, delivery performance can significantly be improved, and the cost in providing video multicast services would subsequently be lowered. This multicast approach is essential for the successful deployment
of large-scale video distribution services.
PGTV is unicast and multicast enabled. Highlighted features are as follows:
1. Video Server:
MPEG1 encoding format
Forward Error Correction
Dynamic Encryption
2. Video Client:
Active X
Self-developed Player
3. Proxy Server: Unicast to Multicast Tunneling
4. Database Server:
Channel Information
User Information
Proxy Information
IP Restriction Informaton
5. Security Server:
User Authentication
Channel List Delivery
6. Admin Manager:
Scheduler
Proxy Management
User Group Management
7. Content Manager:
Account Management
Database Management
Schedule Query
InfoCast System employs IP Multicast technology to deliver multimedia
information to a large number of recipients. Practical applications
may include financial, news, and weather information distribution.
Similar to LiveCast, the adoption of Multicast technologies
enables the system to scale up to an arbitrary number of recipients
on the network. Apart from improved scalability and reduced
cost, the Multicast approach also substantially reduces the
time needed for information distribution. This timeliness advantage
is especially prominent in the distribution of financial information,
such as realtime stock quotes.
